The Odeum/Experiments in Theater camp is a two week summer theater program that culminates with two, full-scale performances. It mirrors a professional summer stock schedule that is appropriately scaled to suit the ages of the participants.

For our 10th annual summer musical, we will take a journey "under the sea" with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney's The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney's Broadway production and the motion picture (featuring the enormously popular Academy Award-winning music and delightfully charming book and lyrics).Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories, Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance. In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home — and her fins — behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking.Written to flow seamlessly between land and sea, Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. provides plenty of opportunities to bring these locations to life through creative movement and configurations. The fantasy of being underwater means your entire cast and crew can let their imaginations run wild.About Theater Design and Tech Camp:Join Miss Valerie and the Experiments in Theater team at the historic Greenwich Odeum in our THEATER DESIGN & TECH CAMP! If you love art, crafting, technology, painting, or creating something new and interesting out of discarded household items, you might enjoy theatrical design and tech! Theater techs are just as important as actors to the story being told on stage. They create and manage props, assemble and care for costumes, build, paint and move sets, operate the sound and stage lighting, and provide all the essential elements that create the physical world of a play. This camp is recommended for participants ages 9 and up. No previous experience is necessary, only an eagerness to create and collaborate. Availability to serve as running crew for camp performances is welcome, but not mandatory.
